Back from Colombia

17 January 2010

Note: The photos bellow where taken by me but are not representative of my artistic work. To view my official Photography please click here.

I’ve hesitated a lot before deciding to publish this post. I was thinking the content probably fits my Facebook page better, but then the image quality on there is pure rubbish so I thought: why not?

I spent from December 1st /09  to January 3rd /10 in Colombia, half promoting my work and exhibiting, half visiting my family&friends and just having fun. I took several pictures, although not as many as I had planned before the trip. I first wanted to take zillions of pictures, particularly of the beautiful urban landscapes that many people abroad don’t know about (because sadly, a lot of people think Colombia is just an extremely dangerous jungle filled with drug dealers and guerrillas…which is rather far from the truth), and share them here. However, to be honest in Colombia I hardly felt like taking my camera out. I just wanted to be there and enjoy the experience for real -and not behind the camera-. Now I’m hating, for instance, not to have taken enough pictures of Bogotá, my city, the capital.

I did take some pictures, of those things that caught my eye strongly enough as to make me take over my laziness and get the camera working. Most of these pictures where taken in Los Llanos and Subachoque, two very different places with different landscapes and weather, but in the same country. I really enjoyed my time there. Now I’m back on track, in France, with some interesting projects ahead and a lot of pictures to edit from last year. In the mean time, let me just share a bit of where I come from with you…

I’ll probably add more city photos soon…

Ps: If you want to see photos from my exhibitions in Colombia, you can go here and here.

Nice.. i like the third one on third row especially…

The butcher one is scary. – the head hanging about and the legs waiting in a row… since watching ‘Kill it Cook it Eat it’ I’ve been thinking more on the subject of meat as you know! ;)

I also like the little religious statues.. last two images.

And yes I would encourage you to keep blogging like this!

heh, I knew you’d think the butcher one is scary ;) but hey, it’s a small, rural butcher shop, with free range meat :P
thanks for the encouragement! Nicolas and I where talking this post might be too much about my personal life but…dunno, I liked the pictures, although they don’t give a complete view of what my country is…Anyway, I didn’t want them to be ruined on Facebook!

Lol at ‘Note: The photos bellow where taken by me but are not representative of my artistic work….’

I think its good to post the odd entry that shows you are snapping pics and considering the artistic possibilities of things around you even when you’re on holiday/home breaks etc. I have looked back at pics I never posted to flickr or blog posts i never published, and wished I had posted them. So it can be worthwhile to seize the moment whilst the content/topic is still relevant to the moment… even if we feel like they are incomplete or need more work to them, because I hate that procrastinating feeling that we get if we’re waiting for things to be perfect before posting! ;-0

Miss seeing your photos on flickr. Love these so much, they are beautiful photos… my favourite is the one of the washing hanging out. It looks like a stunning country.

Wow, great pictures, Rossina. Welcome back to France, by the way! I love the way you’ve captured the nature of your country. Love the second picture especially! Take care and talk soon.

    thanks for the comments ladies!

@Nat: Yes…you expressed very well what I was thinking when I finally hit ‘publish’. I wanted not only to preserve the quality of the pics but also didn’t want them to be lost in my personal archive, like other thousand photos!

@Brady: :’( I still check your stream every now and then though! thanks for visiting me, I’m very glad that u like these!

@Eleanor: Yes I’m back in France and it’s sooo cold ;) glad u like these! seeya!

@Kirsty: oh but these barely give justice to the beauty of my homeland ;)

@Nikolai: one cannot help but to love that place, huh?
