New work /Exhibition in Rennes

22 February 2010

Girl with cradle and toys. Acrylic on canvas. 73 x 60 cm. 2010

I finished this painting last week. The model is Natalie Dybisz aka Miss Aniela, who I met in August 2009 to do a self-portrait collaboration. I started the painting right after I met with her, but stopped working on it for several months until the first week of February 2010. I’m very excited to share this with you, my first piece made (or finished) in 2010, that will be showcased soon in Singulière Plurielles, my second exhibition in Rennes, France!!

View of the flyer. I’ll be exhibiting with French artist Elsa Alayse at Gallery L’Antre Temps.

I’ll show the rest of my new work soon. In the mean time here’s a preview of my most recent series of drawings, which will also be exhibited at L’Antre Temps:

Pencil on paper. 28 x 24 cm. 2010

Stay tuned for more!

Exhibitions in Bogotá, Colombia

28 November 2009

I’m very glad to announce that this December, not only I’ll be visiting my country -after living abroad for more than a year and a half, but I’m having two exhibitions in my hometown!! I’ll be having a big solo exhibition (21 artworks, paintings and drawings) at the art gallery of Skandia, and the show will last for two months, launching the 10th December. Also, I’ll be showing 3 drawings and 3 photographs at Club el Nogal, during their traditional group exhibition for December: “Pequeño Formato”. Huge thanks to Clara Isabel Mendoza, who has been taking care of pretty much everything in Bogotá, and also to the people from Skandia and El Nogal who kindly invited me to exhibit at their art rooms.

I’m very excited about this! Besides, I really can’t wait to see my friends & family, and I’m already drooling with all the delicious things I’m going to eat -no offense my French pals, I’ve had a great time in your country, but French food is definitely overrated! ;)

On another note, I was invited as a guest speaker for the conference “The Status of Women Artists and The Representation of Women in Art in the 21st Century” at University Jean Moulin Lyon III. Last Monday I gave a 2 hour presentation about my work, at Auditorium Andre Malraux. Big thanks to Emeline Chaurand for inviting me to come! Preparing this presentation was a great exercise to straighten out my thoughts on art, feminism, my origins, the Internet, my work, among other things I talked about. I’ll share a report of the event -which was video taped-, later on…in the mean time, you can see some pictures here.

Oh, and, did you watch my filmed interview already? if you haven’t, click here!

Filmed interview with ArtplaTV

12 November 2009

Even though I hate watching myself talk in French, I thought it would be nice to share my interview for ArtplaTV, on the occasion of my solo exhibit in Rennes “Holy Beauty”. Speaking of which, you can now see the complete series of exhibited drawings: click here!

Commissions

12 October 2009

About a month ago I went to Paris to meet Flickr friend Kirsty Mitchell, and deliver a painting (120 x 120 cm acrylic on canvas) she had commissioned at the beginning of this year. I thought I’d share the final result here:

Kirsty's

I’d also like to showcase another commission from a dear Flickr friend, Pia Liikala, who I also met in person this year. When we met last April, besides the shots of her I took for the painting, we managed to find some time to pose together for this photo.

Last but not least, next Friday launches the exhibition “Regards Colombiens sur l’art contemporain” (Contemporary Colombian artists), in which I’m participating with 9 paintings, at Galerie Pictura in Bourges, France :]

Holy beauty

3 October 2009

Finally! I have the time to sit down and write an update. The last couple of weeks have been crazy, traveling, organizing the exhibition as well as creating some new works** I’m really looking forward to share here. But first things first: the exhibition in Rennes! To be honest I was very nervous because this was my first solo exhibition in France. I thought no one would show up, but to my surprise the place was full! At some point it was even hard to move around. It was really exciting to see my works filling up an entire place again and people looking at them, which is twice more satisfying than selling them individually.

The morning of the opening day, the team from ArtplaTV came to film while we were getting things ready, and later did a short interview. I’ll post the video here as soon as it’s ready, although it might take a while because everything was done in French and I suspect it’d be useful to add subtitles at least in English.

The exhibition presented 16 unedited drawings, along with 8 paintings. You can click here to see more pics of the event and have a look at the works. Bellow I’m posting 12 of the 16 drawings (soon I’ll upload the other 4). They are a sort of continuation of La Peregrina, a rather ambitious project inspired mainly by Colonial Latin American Arts (I’ve already ranted about this matter. If you’re interested please go here). I had several ideas in mind for new images similar to La Peregrina, and at some point I felt urged to start doing something about that. That’s how the idea of making drawings came to me. Click on the thumbnails to enlarge:

These 32 x 24 cm drawings are unique artworks, sold at a very approachable price. If you’re interested, do not hesitate to contact me.

Thanks to everyone for the good wishes and to those in Rennes who attended and made publicity. HUGE thanks to Nicolás, who helped me with absolutely everything -and more, also to Charlie and Mathilde, Le Cheval Bleu and ArtplaTV.

**My portfolio at my agent’s has been updated. You can have a look and discover some new photos I haven’t posted here yet: www.juliesagency.com/rossina.bossio
