It’s been a while since I haven’t posted about articles related to my work. But this month I’m thrilled and very honored to be on the 15th Anniversary issue of Shock magazine, with 14 other young personalities of my country, who were chosen because they are changing the image of Colombia with their vision and work. Some of them are: Juan Pablo Salazar (leader in the fight for disability rights), Simón Mejía (musician from Bomba Estéreo), Oscar Ruíz Navia (Director of the movie El vuelco del cangrejo), Sebastian Saavedra (Pilot), among others.

Last January I met with Swedish artist Jonna Bergelin to work in an art book project inspired by the books On the Road by Jack Kerouac and Off the road by Carolyn Cassady. Most people have heard of only the first one. Actually, the length of the articles about the books on Wikipedia illustrates how unpopular is Off the road compared to On the road. However, both books tell two sides of the same story: the story of the Beat Generation, term that designated a group of adventurous writers inspired by jazz, poetry, drugs, sex, eastern religion, hedonism, and a general rejection of mainstream western values. Jack Kerouac is one of the writers, and he wrote his book as one of the bunch; Carolyn Cassady, on the contrary, was the wife and mother of 3 kids of another member, Neal Cassady; in her book she reveals the not-so-cool side of the story, and she breaks down the myth of the ‘wonderfully indomitable beatniks’.

Jonna designed the clothes, inspired by the the figure of Carolyn Cassady, and afterwards we met to create a series of photographs where I was the model. The final result is a book, titled Comme des Filles, that is currently being exhibited at Stockholm, Sweden Gallery Grafiska Sällskapet. As I promised on my Facebook, today I’m sharing with you more pictures from the series! I said I was going to show you the entire series but we’re now looking to possibly edit several copies of the book, and if I show you all the pics now I’d spoil the possibility of actually selling the book ;) hope you’ll forgive me! I’ll be exhibiting in Rennes, starting the 1st October, in the former location of a Polish restaurant, Niebieski Kon (The blue horse). During the entire month, I’ll be showing a series of unedited drawings and paintings (I’ll post a small preview on the blog soon). The owner and chef of the restaurant -who moved to a bigger place just across the street- will delight us with some typical Polish treats on the day of the launching. The title -in Polish- means “Holy Beauty”.

More good news: an article about me has been published in the first issue of international magazine Arte Libertino, which focuses on Latin American arts and culture. I have been invited to participate with my work on the occasion of the magazine’s launching. To read the article (in Spanish) follow this link : Los oscuros ríos del corazón by Felipe Clavijo.

On another note, I’d like to take the opportunity and make public that, after a year and a half of endless postponements and vague answers, I have decided to call off the exhibition in Paris that was due for November 2009 at Door Studios. The lack of seriousness and reliability from the gallery’s team forced me to cancel the -yet hypothetical- event, that was being planned since April 2008. Regretfully, I had accumulated and reserved a considerable amount of work, which led me to turn down some very good exhibition and sales opportunities. I want to make clear that I was always honest and prompt towards the people at Door Studios, and in response I got complete negligence and incapability to deliver on previous agreements, along with several ignored phone calls and messages. In other words, a total lack of professionalism.

Thank you to those in Paris who’ve shown interest in viewing my work live. Although I’m sorry that this time it won’t happen, I’m certain that it will in the near future. I’m eager to show all my new work and willing to seize new opportunities. I’ll continue my research. In the meantime, see you in Rennes!
