Back from Colombia

17 January 2010

Note: The photos bellow where taken by me but are not representative of my artistic work. To view my official Photography please click here.

I’ve hesitated a lot before deciding to publish this post. I was thinking the content probably fits my Facebook page better, but then the image quality on there is pure rubbish so I thought: why not?

I spent from December 1st /09  to January 3rd /10 in Colombia, half promoting my work and exhibiting, half visiting my family&friends and just having fun. I took several pictures, although not as many as I had planned before the trip. I first wanted to take zillions of pictures, particularly of the beautiful urban landscapes that many people abroad don’t know about (because sadly, a lot of people think Colombia is just an extremely dangerous jungle filled with drug dealers and guerrillas…which is rather far from the truth), and share them here. However, to be honest in Colombia I hardly felt like taking my camera out. I just wanted to be there and enjoy the experience for real -and not behind the camera-. Now I’m hating, for instance, not to have taken enough pictures of Bogotá, my city, the capital.

I did take some pictures, of those things that caught my eye strongly enough as to make me take over my laziness and get the camera working. Most of these pictures where taken in Los Llanos and Subachoque, two very different places with different landscapes and weather, but in the same country. I really enjoyed my time there. Now I’m back on track, in France, with some interesting projects ahead and a lot of pictures to edit from last year. In the mean time, let me just share a bit of where I come from with you…

Announcement: Meet the author(s)

23 April 2009
Meet the author(s)

Click on the image to see what participants are saying on Flickr!

Note: If you are not familiar with the Art Project Dialogue With the Radio, please >>go here<< to see what is it about.

—————————————

At last, the identity of the anonymous authors in the project Dialogue With the Radio has been revealed!! Remember the mysterious E, N, D and ENEDD? Well, find out who they are now!!!:

Allow me to introduce Nicolás Díaz Durana, who is standing right next to me in this not-so-artsy portrait.  We met in our hometown, Bogotá. We both went to catholic schools for boys and girls separately, where we developped a passionate desdain for labels, stereotypes, social standards, as well as anything that would give us false and gratuitous expectations concerning life, humankind, wellbeing, self-esteem, future, happiness, etc (i.e any kind of religous group, political party, self-help group, a fan club, a fast diet program, and so forth). But we didn’t meet until University, and before that we both thought we were bound to end up alone, for we are conscientious guardians of our own individuality, and we do not embrace strangers easely. Subsequently, we entered each other’s lives slowly, almost reluctantly…and I don’t know when and how we fell in love, it just happened. Our story is not one to put in a movie, epic lovestory overseas, tragedy with a happy ending.

We are just two human beings that truly love each other. We stubbornly search for ways to improve our lives and we do not intend to change the world.

>>He writes, I make images. He is E, N, D, ENEDD. One, two and many more. We both created and run Dialogue With The Radio, the online version as well as the design of the book*. We just came back from a holiday, more sick than ever of flowers and sweet pieces of joyful empty sounds. We don’t want to filter our ideas anymore…not even a tiny bit.

“How talented are you? Can you speak your mind? I mean, what’s down under, not what’s floating in the shiny top of your very kind convinience.

Images speak out. This section invites you to do the same thing. Are you to it”.**

—-

* We’re designing the book…please be patient about that, it’s a long process!

** Quote from >>the very first DWTR set.

Find me…

22 April 2009

I’ve been searching for other networks to share my work, other than Flickr or Redbubble, of which I’m fed up right now. I recognize these sites, and more particularly Flickr, have offered me great opportunities and widened up the spectrum of viewers, but their censorship policies, general content and users’ preferences upset me.

I just joined “Behance Network, creative portfolios, projects and collaborations”. Behance is the “Official Community Partner” of the 13th annual Webby Awards, the leading international award honoring excellence in interactive design, creativity, usability and functionality on the Internet. Indeed, looks very professional and much more open to diversity. I’ve been browsing there for a couple of hours and I’ve already found more than just a few very interesting painters, illustrators, photographers and designers! More importantly,  artists are free to upload their projects without an invisible hand censoring the slightest appearance of a nipple.

I do hope, however, that one day my website will work independently from other image-sharing sites. Which is why I decided to start posting stuff here more often, even if I don’t have very special news to share…like an exhibition or a publication or whatever…

Safety hysteria

19 March 2009

I recently realized several images on my Flickr stream have been moderated by the Administration staff of the site.

No one notified me. I just bumped into the fact that some pictures were missing when I wanted to show my stream to a friend in his computer. What a bummer. An invisible individual with apparently higher morals than me can decide whether my images are offensive or not. On Redbubble, an Admin contacted me  to notify that one of my paintings (!), which was considered offensive, had been deleted. They offered me the chance to complain and have my case reconsidered (thing you can try on Flickr as well but you’ll never get an answer). I did complain but nothing ever happened…

These censorship policies really bother me, but hey…what can I do…that´s the way things work. In an environment that seeks to offend the least number of their members, I’m lucky just some of my images have been ‘moderated’ and thankfully I’m not completely ‘unsafe’ for the Flickr community (…) :/

Just wanted to let you know, that if you aren’t signed in and have your safe search filter off, you won’t be able to see my entire stream.

All new Rossina Bossio site launched!!

9 February 2009

The day has arrived and the all new www.rossinabossio.com is now officially launched!!

During the last few months we’ve been working with Matthew Richards and Sue Lott to update  and completely revamp my online portfolio. We departed from my prior, Flash-based web site, wanting to provide a simple and clean gallery showcase for my painting, photography and drawing. But not just that…Now you can learn about upcoming exhibitions and keep up to date with other art related news, as well as ongoing art projects, such as Dialogue with the Radio. Additionally, you can now purchase prints!!

Check out the ‘Latest’ Galleries to see what I’ve been up to in France. And make sure you let me know what you think about the site! :)
